Joanne Hamilton CTA FCCA TEP – Associate Tax Director

Jo trained and qualified with a local firm in Newcastle-under-Lyme as a chartered certified accountant in 2004.

She then advanced into tax work, initially working with Sole Traders, Partnerships, Companies and their Directors, high net worth individuals and Trusts with their complex tax compliance.

After qualifying as a Chartered Tax Advisor in 2011, Jo has worked at a number of firms in the Staffordshire and Cheshire area, completing a period at one of the Big 4 Firms in Manchester. During this time she provided a wide range of tax advice and complex tax compliance services to individuals and owner managed businesses, big and small and in a variety of different sectors, including medical practitioners and farmers.

Jo has also specialised in Estate and Trust tax, providing advice to individuals to minimise their future Inheritance tax liabilities and also assisting solicitors and financial advisors on trust and estate matters. Jo qualified as a Trust and Estate Practitioner in 2020 and this has helped her to have a deeper understanding in this area.

Jo joined the Alextra team as Tax Manager in January 2022. Leaning on over 20 years in accountancy practice and the wide range of experience gained over that time, she quickly established herself as a dedicated and trusted tax resource for both clients and the team to rely on for advice on all types of tax issues, both big and small. This has also enabled a greater connection between our Business and Wealth Management teams too as tax issues can cross over, so encouraging a holistic approach with ‘in-the-round’ advice to be provided to our clients in all aspects of their business and personal matters. As a result, Jo was promoted to Associate Director of Tax in April 2023 with the aim of continuing to grow the tax practice in the coming years.

Jo lives with her partner Andy and she is ‘owned’ by a retired rescue greyhound called Lucy. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, walking the dog, travelling, watching Stoke City as well as sampling and collecting different types of gin.
